About the removal of events.
“Why can’t we have our large event in the Park?”
Our Park is more than just a gathering place. It is a living, breathing space that depends on healthy soil, grass, and trees. We love seeing the community come together here, but very large events, especially those that bring thousands of people onto the same areas over several days, can create serious challenges for the park.
When too many people walk around on the same spots, the soil becomes compacted and air and water cannot reach the roots below. Grass struggles to grow back, tree roots weaken and become more prone to disease, and drainage problems create muddy, eroded areas. Once this kind of damage happens, it can take years, not days, to recover.
Turning away an event is never easy and is never a decision we take lightly. Every request is carefully considered. If saying yes would cause lasting damage to the park, we have to protect the grounds first. It is never about the value of the event but about making sure the park can continue serving everyone for years to come. At the end of the day, we are a Park first and a venue for events second.
We will always welcome gatherings, celebrations, and family memories. But we have to balance those special moments with the long-term health of the park itself. Protecting the soil and grass today ensures the park stays green and beautiful for the next generation.
You can help by understanding that event limits are about preservation, not restriction. Choose lighter-impact activities when possible, especially after heavy rain, and help spread the word about why the park needs this care.
We know it may seem inconsistent that we limit some events but still host the Fourth of July celebration. That event brings heavy foot traffic, but it also provides funding needed to repair the wear it causes. Along with generous donations from the community, it allows us to reseed and restore the grounds, care for trees, flowers, and water features, and keep paths and lawns safe and clean. Without it, we could not maintain the park at the level our community expects and deserves.
We understand it can be disappointing when an event cannot be held here. Every careful decision we make is about keeping Lititz Springs Park healthy, welcoming, and open for decades to come. Thank you for supporting and caring for this special place.
