Timberrrrrr! Why is the Park taking down so many trees?
Caring for Our Park’s Trees and Paths
Why we sometimes have to remove trees—and how we’re planting for the future
Our trees are part of what makes Lititz Springs Park so special. They give us shade on sunny days, beauty in every season, and a peaceful place to gather. But over time, some trees get old, damaged, or develop roots that disrupt paths and stream beds. When that happens, certain areas of the park can become unsafe for walking, biking, or enjoying a picnic.
Some trees need to come down for safety. Weak or damaged trees can drop branches or fall during storms, and roots can lift walkways, creating tripping hazards and damaging park surfaces. Thick tree canopies can also block sunlight, leaving bare patches where grass struggles to grow.
We know how much visitors value the shade, beauty, and calm of the park. By opening up some areas, we’re helping grass grow, improving safety, and keeping the park welcoming—while still preserving plenty of shade and charm.
For every tree we remove, we plant new ones carefully chosen to thrive here. These young trees will grow strong, providing shade and beauty for generations to come. It’s all part of keeping our park healthy, safe, and full of life.
